 North American Locomotives When it comes to N-Scale locomotives KATO is the undisputed leader. They are credited with inventing the so-called split frame mechanism that has become the standard for N-Scale locomotive design today. KATO's locomotive models incorporate state of the art features such as five-pole skewed armature motors, machined brass flywheels, constant intensity lighting and blackened wheelsets. Most models also feature an easy upgrade to Digital Command Control (DCC) since the factory circuit board can be easily replaced with a "plug & play" decoder. While other manufacturers now offer locomotives with mechanisms similar to KATO none of them have been able to truly duplicate the precision that KATO is known for. KATO models are designed and produced in Japan at KATO's own manufacturing facility near Tokyo. Each release is produced as a limited edition production run and demand is usually greater than supply. with ESU LokSound and SOUNDTRAXX Tsunami 2 Our advanced custom DCC/Sound installation is only possible due to recent advances in both decoder and speaker design. This allows us to install DCC/Sound into KATO locomotives with either minimal or in some cases no modifications to the frame. This permits the full weight of the frame to remain which means your model will have the full amount of pulling power that KATO intended. This wasn't possible until now thanks to innovative new products from ESU and SOUNDTRAXX. Models are produced one at a time by an installer with over 25 years of experience. They come programmed for ultra smooth operation, realistic lighting intensity and of course optimum sound quality. Each model comes with a special data sheet with tips, CV programming defaults and list of decoder functions.
